TECHNICAL GUIDE: NET METERING
OBJECTIVES
• To serve as a comprehensive guide to all parties concerned.
• To analyze in depth the economic aspects and forecast for the future
• To analyze in depth the technical aspects and forecast future
• To analyze the social environment aspects and forecast for the future
• To serve as a guide to the consumers to choose the optimum installation capacity as well as the optimum energy source mix.
• To analyze the practical problems faced by users as well as the suppliers and to propose suitable measures to overcome them.
• To compare the prevalent systems with the net metering system
• To propose a suitable framework to be implemented island wide to make distributed generation a reality.
1. ECONOMIC ANALYSIS
PREVALENT RENEWABLE ENEGY SOURCES AND THEIR ECONOMICS WITH RESPECT TO OUR COUNTRY

THE ANALYSIS
It will include all aspects such as energy source installation, coupling devices (meters/inverters/isolators) required maintenance over the lifetime of the installation.
All economics will be analyzed using rough approximation Eg: Simple discount method
A COMPARISON BETWEEN THE VARIOUS OPTIONS AVAILABLE
To give the users an idea about what sources are most suitable for energy generation

2. THE ASSUMED OUTCOMES
Here the analysis is done with respect to a national and global framework and will try to analyze the system at a much broader platform with a scope encompassing environment, non renewable energy dependence. Etc…
3. TECHNOLOGY SPECIFIC PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS TO OVERCOME THEM
1. To generate simple formulae that gives the ability to calculate optimum installation capacity for each source as well as hybrid sources.
2. Connection diagrams, specific components required and the modifications required in the users installation.
4. ECONOMIC ASPECTS WITH RESPECT TO DIFFERENT CONSUMER GROUPS
1. Domestic users
• Low end <300Kwh
• High end >300Kwh

2. Agriculcural users
3. Industrial users
The analysis of economic effects with respect to the prevalent tariff structure of Srilanka.

5.THE MARKET
Here the research will try to find the available brands in the market as well as their quality and reliability. The information will be presented for the eyes of the laymen.
